Aircraft and financial assets targeted in $53.85 million attachment in Anil Ambani group probes

India’s Enforcement Directorate has added two aircraft and other assets to proceedings involving Reliance finance and telecom companies. The new measure is part of a much larger recovery effort, with allegations still to be adjudicated.

The record

Two chartered aircraft, land and financial holdings have become the latest assets targeted in India’s investigations into alleged bank fraud involving the Reliance Anil Ambani Group. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) announced the action on 3 November; the two disclosed components total 510.17 crore rupees, or approximately $53.85 million. [1][2][6]

PTI reports that the assets were provisionally attached under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). This is an asset-preservation measure in ongoing proceedings, not a criminal conviction or confirmation that creditors have recovered the stated value. [7]

Two sets of assets, two branches of the inquiry

The larger component, 263.05 crore rupees — approximately $27.76 million — concerns Reliance Home Finance (RHFL) and Reliance Commercial Finance (RCFL). It includes two windmills in Tamil Nadu, bank balances, fixed deposits, investments and receivables. The RCOM component is 247.12 crore rupees, approximately $26.08 million. [3][6]

In the Reliance Communications case, investigators identified six land parcels and an office in Maharashtra, alongside a Dassault Falcon 2000 registered VT-AAT and an Embraer EMB-135BJ, or Legacy 650, registered VT-OMM. The registrations are also printed beneath photographs in the ED’s bulletin. [1][2]

What the larger total does — and does not — measure

The ED puts cumulative attachments and seizures across the group investigations at about 23,100 crore rupees, equivalent to $2.44 billion. That figure already includes the latest action. It combines measures across several cases under PMLA and foreign-exchange legislation; it is not a fresh loss discovered on 3 November. [1][6][8]

A list containing receivables, investments, property and aircraft is not a cash recovery statement. The announcement does not establish what those assets would realise on sale, which creditors would receive distributions or when. Those questions require valuation records and the relevant legal decisions.

Earlier filings show why the cases must be kept separate

An August ED bulletin records an additional prosecution complaint in the RCOM case and identifies 40,185.55 crore rupees — about $4.24 billion — as alleged proceeds of crime measured by defaulted creditor claims. This is an investigative allegation and a different measure from attached-asset value. [4][6]

A July bulletin concerning RHFL and RCFL alleges diversion of 15,548 crore rupees, approximately $1.64 billion, through shell and group companies. Neither historical amount should be added to the latest attachment or to the group-wide asset total. [5][6]

The broader allegation is that bank and financial-institution funding was diverted, including offshore, and insolvency procedures were misused to shelter assets. These are the agency’s allegations, not findings independently established by The Ledgers. [8]

The response and the next documentary test

NDTV recalls Ambani’s denial of wrongdoing in an earlier Reliance Capital case. That response concerns separate allegations; it is not a verified response to the 3 November attachments. The Ledgers has not obtained a fresh statement from him or the affected companies. [3]

The ED says ten people have been arrested and six PMLA prosecution complaints filed across these investigations, alongside one FEMA complaint. These are cumulative figures and do not establish that Ambani himself was arrested in this action. [1]

The Ledgers reviewed three ED bulletins and contemporaneous reporting. It has not obtained the underlying attachment orders or independently verified the valuations. The next tests are the property-by-property grounds for attachment, any challenges by owners and the decisions governing eventual recovery.

Currency note: dollar equivalents use the ECB’s 3 November 2026 rates of €1 = $1.1179 = ₹105.9155. One crore is ten million rupees. Conversions are rounded and are not new asset valuations. [6]
